Sea Sparkle

Wonderful bioluminescent plankton at Jervis Bay, NSW.

The scientific name for this natural phenomenon is noctiluca scintillans, but it’s commonly known as ‘Sea Sparkle’. I was up most of the night shooting frame after frame and during that time the sky remained cloudy. Fortunately, there was a 5 minute break in the clouds when I took this photo. For that brief window the Milky Way was revealed and the two brightest stars are Saturn and Jupiter. It was a night I’ll remember for a long time.
